It’s been two and a half years since Gal Gadot‘s Wonder Woman saved a flailing DC Studios extended universe. Now, all these months later, DC and Warner Bros. seem to have righted the ship–with help from Aquaman and Shazam— and over the weekend, Warner Bros. finally released the first trailer for Wonder Woman 1984.
There are two big takeaway here. First, Chris Pine‘s Steve Trevor is back, despite his fiery airplane death in the first installment. Fan theories abound as to how he returns, but Patty Jenkins has promised that his return is integral to this film’s plot (maybe he has something to do with that ominous voiceover?).
Second, we get our first look at Kristen Wiig as Barbara Minerva (aka. Cheetah), the film’s villain. I have been dying to see Wiig land a part like this, and I’m pumped to see how she fairs in this role.
Elsewhere in the trailer, we see Pedro Pascal‘s Max Lord–a savvy businessman Jenkins calls “the king of infomercials.” And of course, there are beautiful action set pieces, including a decade-appropriate and beautifully choreographed mall scene.
There is no doubt in this Plotaholic’s mind: Wonder Woman is back! And I, for one, can’t wait to see what Patty Jenkins and company have in store for us this spin around (right ’round).
What are your thoughts on the new trailer?
