Rest in Peace and Power to the late, great John Witherspoon, among the many MVPs in this film, for his role as Willie Jones. Witherspoon was very well respected, beloved, and always brought hard work, dedication, and a humble nature to every project he was involved with, and he will be missed.
With that said, this week the Plotaholics discuss among the greatest comedies in film history: 1995’s Friday. Friday stars Ice Cube, Chris Tucker, John Witherspoon, Tiny Lister, Bernie Mac, and an uncredited appearance by the late Michael Clarke Duncan!
Friday is about Craig Jones (Ice Cube), a young man living life in his South Central Los Angeles neighborhood on a Friday. Craig was fired from his job the day before (on his day off), and his best friend Smokey (Tucker) is determined to help him get over his situation the only way he knows how: by getting high!
The two friends experience the idiosyncratic routines of individuals in their neighborhood while also attempting to figure out how to get themselves out of trouble with Big Worm, the local drug dealer.
Twenty-five years ago, this film hit theatres and it is as relevant now as it was then and has withstood the hands of time. So…what rating will the Plotaholics give this film?
Well, you’ll just have to listen to find out!
